Student Wellbeing

Resilience Project

We are proud to partner with The Resilience Project. Through weekly lessons we share the benefits of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. We incorporate emotional literacy, connection and physical health activities as they are foundational contributors to positive mental health.

Child Safety

St Martin de Porres is a Child Safe School. We have a zero-tolerance policy to child abuse and value the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all students entrusted to our care. There is an expectation that all staff and visitors work together to keep children safe. Our greatest asset is our children as they are the future. We actively support our students to have a voice in decisions and be leaders in our school.

Restorative Practices

All classes operate a positive rewards system. We have clear school rules and behaviour expectations.

Positive Behaviour For Learning (PBL)

This year we have begun our journey with Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). PBL is a whole school approach which builds a strong culture of respect, belonging and high expectations for all. PBL focuses on teaching and celebrating positive behaviours, just as we explicitly teach reading, writing and mathematics. We are developing clear, consistent expectations so that our students know what respectful, safe and responsible behaviour looks like in classrooms, the playground and our community.

When expectations are clear and relationships are strong, students are more confident, more engaged and more able to flourish. For families, this means they will begin to see:

  • Shared language around our school values and expectations
  • A focus on recognising and celebrating positive choices
  • Consistent and fair responses to behaviour
  • Opportunities to partner with us so home and school can partner together

PBL is a long-term commitment to nurturing a community where every child feels they belong and has what they need to succeed socially, emotionally and academically.
